D'Anne Hurd Since January 2006, D’Anne Hurd, a business development and legal affairs executive, has been Vice President for Business Development at Gateway Park and university General Counsel at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Hurd has more than 30 years of senior finance, legal, and business development experience for a wide variety of biotechnology, life sciences, medical, and technology companies with significant experience in strategic planning, joint ventures, and strategic alliances.

Prior to joining WPI, Ms. Hurd served as chief financial officer and general counsel for several life science and technology companies, including NMS Communications, STARBAK Communications, Inc., Vividon, Inc., NaviPath, Inc., and SmartRoute Systems, Inc.  Her years of experience in executive-level management also include her role as Corporate Vice President and General Counsel for MediSense, Inc. during the company’s IPO, senior finance positions at GTE Corporation and PepsiCo, Inc., and seven years as an associate with the Boston law firm Burns & Levinson where she specialized in life sciences/medical products IPOs and M&A work. Hurd has had substantial board involvement in all positions, and currently serves on the boards of directors of Data Translation, Inc. (DATX) and Vaso Active Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (VAPH), as well as the boards of several nonprofit and professional organizations including the New England Chapter of NACD.

Ms. Hurd earned a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College as a double major in English literature and theater arts. She later graduated with an MBA in finance, Beta Gamma Sigma, from the University of Connecticut, where she won the Wall Street Journal Outstanding Student Award for Leadership and Academic Excellence. She earned a J.D. from the Duke University School of Law with an emphasis on corporate and securities law, and was runner-up in the Dean’s Cup Moot Court Competition.
