The Labyrinth of Leadership: Women Confront the Double Bind

Linda L. Carli, associate professor of psychology at Wellesley College, has conducted extensive research on the effects of gender on women’s leadership, group interaction, communication, and influence, as well as reactions to adversity, resulting in more than 75 scholarly articles, chapters, and presentations. Currently, she is extending her research focus to include gender discrimination and the challenges faced by professional women.

She is active in professional organizations in psychology and management and serves on the executive board of the Society for the Women of Psychology.

At Wellesley, she teaches courses in organizational and applied psychology, and has also developed and conducted diversity training workshops and negotiation and conflict resolution workshops for women leaders. She has lectured widely on gender and diversity for business, academic, and other organizations.

She holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
