Elaine Cencak Memorial Scholarship

The SPC is proud to offer a $1000
scholarship prize to either an undergraduate student majoring in a communications field, or a graduating senior continuing on to graduate school at college or university in Worcester County.
The winner also receives a one-year free membership to SPC, which
provides an opportunity
to explore an array of career paths and the chance to
find an internship or employment upon graduation.
SPC established this scholarship to commemorate its 50th anniversary, which was celebrated during its 2001/2002 membership year. The award is named for Elaine Cencak, who helped to establish the organization and nurtured it as advisor and mentor during its first four decades.
Criteria for applying are as follows:
- Applicants must be a full- or part-time college student majoring in a communications field.
- Currently enrolled as a sophomore or junior, or a first-semester senior or a senior continuing on to graduate school to pursue a higher degree in a communications field.
- All applicants must be attending a college within Worcester County.
- Applicants cannot be a current member of the Society of Professional Communicators.

Applicants must also provide two letters of reference with their completed application. One reference must be an instructor or faculty advisor; the other should be someone who has supervised the applicant in a volunteer or employment position.
Judging Criteria
A panel of SPC members will judge scholarship applications based on the following criteria:
- Quality of application
- Contributions to the communications field
- Academic achievement/accomplishments
- Demonstration of a commitment to a communications career
- Communications skills
- Enthusiasm for communications
Scholarship Schedule
For the 2009-10 scholarship, applications must be received via e-mail or postmarked no later than Monday, February 15, 2010.
Applicants will receive an email confirmation that applications have been received by the SPC Scholarship Chair.
Winner will be notified during April; the scholarship will be presented at SPC’s Annual Meeting on May 11, 2010.
