Psychologist and Marriage Checkup

James CordovaIn the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we’re proud to feature James V. Córdova, psychologist and Clark University professor. During an enlightening talk, he’ll remind us that the most important kind of communication – that between couples – involves more than chocolates and roses.

At our monthly SPC meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 14, Mr. Córdova will talk about his research and latest book, The Marriage Checkup: Focusing on Marital Health.

Most adults find the time to have regular dental checkups, notes Córdova. So why do so few employ the same planned care and maintenance for their marriages? Córdova is a leading figure in the field of couples research and therapy. He directs the Center for Couples and Family Research at Clark, a team clinical research effort consisting of faculty, doctoral and undergraduate students. The Center’s goal is to produce cutting-edge research on intimate relationships and on the development of focused interventions to promote relationship and marital health. Córdova is a frequent guest and source for major media, appearing on CNN, the “Rachael Ray” show, in newspapers, and on radio. He writes Living Intimately, a blog series at Psychology Today online.
