September 12, 2006

Bruce Gaultney, recently-appointed publisher of the Telegram & Gazette, shared his thoughts and insights with a group of 50+ SPC members and guests on the changing ways newspapers (such as the T&G) get news and information to their readers. He discussed the need for daily newspapers to diversify, as the T&G did by establishing Worcester Quarterly Magazine, and to embrace new platforms, such as the Internet (which the T&G has accomplished through its Web site, telegram.com, which was made free in July 2006), in order to broaden their readership base—especially among young readers. He also stressed the value the T&G places on its connection to the local community, stating that it is a partnership that it allows for an exchange of information valuable to both parties.



October 10, 2006

Madeleine and Robb Ahlquist, owners of The Sole Proprietor and 111 Chop House restaurants (and a soon-to-be-opened Mediterranean-style eatery) in Worcester, were joined by their advertising director, Michael Donovan, to share some secrets outside of the kitchen. In their presentation "How to Feed a Business" these experienced restaurateurs revealed the ingredients necessary to cook up successful marketing and advertising strategies for their three separate businesses.



November 14, 2006

Judith Jaeger, MFA, long-time communications professional, creative writing instructor and currently Director of University Communications at Clark University in Worcester, published her first novel, The Secret Thief, in June 2006. At our November meeting she discussed the trials, tribulations and triumphs she experienced on her path to publishing that first book. She is presently finishing her second novel and beginning research on her third. 


December 12, 2006

Joe O'BrienCampaign Manager for Worcester Mayor Tim Murray's run for Lieutenant Governor, spoke about campaign communications, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the multi-layered nature of organizing and managing a political campaign.


January 9, 2007

Inventor and marketing specialist Annie Ide kicked off the new year with an informative presentation entitled: Inventions - Is your idea worth a million? In it she covered everything about inventing—from the brainstorming and idea creation process to start-up sales, promotion, and marketing strategies and techniques.


February 13, 2007

D'Anne Hurd, Vice President for Business Development, Gateway Project, discussed the status of the Gateway Project, development challenges and how she is successfully marketing the project.

March 6, 2007 - SPC Conference

Blogging: Everybody's Business

This 1/2-day conference held at Assumption College focused on various aspects of blogging and Web casting and how they can affect your business. SPC members and friends enjoyed engaging and informative presentations by Rich Marcello, Claudia Snell and Diane K. Danielson.

Dr. Charles Steinberg, Boston Red Sox Executive VP for Public Affairs, presented SPC members and guests with a riveting tale of the development of his career with Major League Baseball, beginning with an internship at the Baltimore Orioles to his current position with the Boston Red Sox.
